About Student Council at AIS
The Student Council Association's goal is to make and keep the Athens Intermediate School one that encourages and maintains among its student body, good citizenship, and cooperative spirit. Our purpose is to encourage active participation in student decision making in the projects of our school and to carry through the responsibility of their decisions. Students benefit from being a part of the Student Council by developing leadership and becoming more responsible.
Each homeroom class will elect an Ambassador to represent them. Students who are interested in becoming an Ambassador, write an essay explaining why they would be best for the part. Students will present their essay to their class, and each class will vote for who they think will be the best leader. Ambassadors are expected to be leaders and make choices that reflect their leadership status. Any conduct deemed inconsistent with the purpose of SCA might result in permanent removal from the council. Ambassadors are required to attend all meetings. If you acquire two unexcused absences from consecutive meetings, you will be removed from SCA. The only excused absence from a meeting is an excused absence from school.
The Student Council at AIS participates in several fundraisers and events throughout the school year. In the past, students have helped host a canned food drive around Christmas, in which all donations go to the Limestone County Churches Involved. SCA sponsors a Christmas Angel. Each year, we go on a Service Project field trip. We went to the Downtown Rescue Mission in Huntsville and helped sort clothes that have been donated for people in need.
